true crime

i haven't posted any of my hometown's crime reports in a while, these are some of the gems i found from that past few weeks. solid gold.

200 block of School House Road
 – A woman reported a terroristic threat. She said that a man she knows drove into her driveway, pointed at her and then left.

600 block of Indian Trail – A woman called 911 and reported a case of domestic violence after she heard horrible screams coming from a neighbor’s house. Deputies arrived to find a man yelling at his television. He was watching the Dallas Cowboys game.

100 block of Private Road 4686 – A woman reported that her daughter’s “baby daddy” was harassing her by telephone.

400 block of County Road 4581 – A man found people on his property armed with raw eggs.

A-Plus RV Park – A woman reported that her boyfriend assaulted her because she threw his false teeth down a sewer pipe.

100 block of County Road 4693 – A woman’s neighbors were watching her do yard work.

i would love to have a dinner party, wedding reception, or completely normal weekday meal at this table.

i love love love the lights. so pretty!

pumpkin whoopie pies and pretty flowers.

sweetness

this picture was taken during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new g.w. bush library on the smu campus. in this moment, the speaker was discussing bush's response to the 9/11 attacks.

i have always thought that little touches between a couple, like the one above, are so incredibly sweet and reassuring and thoughtful. this is just the most precious picture ever.

love love.

these kids are not at all impressed about their upcoming surprise trip to disney world. hilarious!

beautimous subway

this is the old city hall stop on the 6 train that is no longer in use. it's perfectly preserved and if you keep riding the 6 past the brooklyn bridge stop (where they normally kick you off) the train will loop around to the uptown platform, passing through this beautiful stop.

so pretty! i have to thank the ginger for finding this gem!

the next book to-do

even though i'm a few years late to this party, Devil in the White City is definitely going to be my next read. the author, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, was nominated for a National Book Award after its release in 2003.

summary: "Bringing Chicago circa 1893 to vivid life, "The Devil In the White City" intertwines the true tale of two men - Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World's Fair, striving to secure America's place in the world; and Dr. H.H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle.""

i also just read that leonardo dicaprio is going to play the serial killer in the movie, planned for release late next year. from entertainment weekly, "DiCaprio will play Herman Webster Mudgett, alias H. H. Holmes, a serial killer who confessed to murdering 27 people — and may have killed as many as 200 — during the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair"

the standard hotel--looks lovely. and quiet.

dixie!!

it feels like it's been a while since i posted a solo shot of my sweet dixie. since she's officially never moving to new york, dixie spends all day in the backyard running around and doing dog things. she's even lost a little weight!

i can't wait to see her at thanksgiving!

yum?

this dessert is vanilla cake with apple pie baked into it, on top of a chocolate cake with pumpkin pie baked into that layer, covered in buttercream frosting.

one slice is 1,800 calories. yikes!

i love these bow earrings from isadora's.
i've been on the hunt for a bow necklace just like these! i'm hoping the guy at the christmas fair in union square can make me something similar to those earrings--so pretty!

crocs on a plane!

some fool in the democratic republic of congo snuck a small crocodile onto a plane in his carry-on bag. the croc escapes, causes a panic/stampede in the cabin, which leads to the plane losing its balance, which leads to a plane crash. 19 people killed, 1 human survivor, 1 crocodile survivor.

dummy.

one of the best presents i've ever received was tickets to coldplay.

"And I'm not gonna stand and wait
Not gonna leave it until it's much too late
On a platform I'm gonna stand and say
That I'm nothing on my own
And I love you, please come home"

his favorite sport is...

according to msn.com, a guy's favorite sport says a lot about his personality.

baseball lovers are often patriotic, patient and obsessed with statistics, and they’re almost always superstitious.

usually someone with patience and a steady income, because a decent set of clubs and green fees aren’t cheap, especially if he’s the kind who will snap a club in a fit of frustrated rage (which is about all of us).

Soccer players are not conformists.

these dudes tend to have a macho sensibility and value a sense of “team.” don’t make plans for a die-hard football fan on a Sunday in the fall. (it's called bumday)

it takes a certain kind of individual to thrive at poker. these guys are patient, cunning and calm under pressure. any bum can throw clay chips and insults across a table (and they often do). however, poker fanatics are often loners who don’t mind sitting at a table for hours at a time with a bunch of strangers or, even more lonesome, in online poker games. you better know what you’re dealing with before you go all in.

re: poker player--i've never read a more accurate description of a personality. ever.

*there were other sports to read about, i included the link above.

cooking time!

this is the barefoot contessa's kitchen in the hamptons, my fave food network lady.

i would die if this were my kitchen. die.

cash cab fact

If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.
